Hey Joe,

Thanks for replying to my email. I did update the soundcard driver. Haven’t had a chance to bombard Music Creator with audio tracks to see how much it can handle. I’ll keep you posted on my findings.

I’ll keep you posted.

Enjoy Being.

Leo,

I hope this works for you! When I troubleshoot driver issues, especially when I am trying to figure-out what is outdated or not, I use two free scanning sites that provide great information to me. They are:

http://totallydrivers.com & http://radarsync.com

They will provide you with the latest information about what drivers that you have that are out of date and the names and versions of the new ones. However, if you want to download them directly from either, you will have to pay a subscription fee. I simply, punch in the driver name and find them myself… But if you did a lot of this, the $29.95 subscription fee is MORE than fair for a year.

Remember, don’t change out a driver if you don’t suspect an error with it and everything is working fine…sometimes changing drivers en-masse creates its own issues.

Please let me know if you get this working.

Hey Joe,

Do you think any of the bad drivers on the following link may be the cuase of the bsod?

http://driveragent.com/driveragent_results.php?hwid=3366a8245b87483999dcc482abe5fed7&PHPSESSID=2nuuucjpmsc962v06votrs2qq6

All of the sound card drivers are legit as well as the drivers for the midi controller and audio interface.

Your input is much appreciated.

Should I maybe update the USB Host Controllers?

Leo,

I’m still on my way back from my speaking engagement at FMEA in florida… I’ll look into this as soon as I get back… in the meantime can you tell me exactly what error (if any) you are getting and exactly when it happens (before the program even opens, etc.)

Joe,

Thanks for replying. I took down some info from the bsod but am unsure as to what info would be most useful to you.

Here’s what I jotted down:

driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

0×000000d1(0×0000007c,0×00000002,0×00000000,0xf6de1fcb(usbport.sissys)

I may have missed a letter or number somewhere. Next time it happens, I’ll jot the info down more thoroughly.

The bsod seems to occur when I’m dealing with more than 3-5 audio tracks in music creator pro. I don’t believe it has ever happened when dealing exclusively with midi.

It never happens out of the blue, meaning it is always initiated by something I do with the mouse, that is clicking on just about any other function within the program.

Interestly, a bsod occurred today when working with finale 07. Not sure that it has ever happened before within finale.

On another note…I’m hoping to get to the Grand Rapids conference. We’ll see how things transpire.

Thanks for all your help and I’m seriously considering blogging in the name of music education. I’m just not sure I can confidently commit to doing so regularly. I’ll let you know if I get one started.

Leo,

I had a little time to research your problem. Although, I’ve not come across that particular error before it looks as though a number of people have and in most cases the issue is either a driver error and/or memory failure as you suggested.

Check out this thread for a number of possibilities:

http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=308429

Since you have checked your drivers, I would suggest checking your RAM using a free utility from Microsoft. It’s part of their Online Crash Analysis program and called their “Windows Memory Diagnostic”. I have had very good results using it.

It’s pretty simple to use and requires you to make either a boot floppy (which you probably don’t have a FD on the computer) or a Boot CD. This I’m sure you can do. It will copy an ISO (image of a CD) to your computer. You will have to burn this image to a blank CD using whatever software you have that can burn ISO. If you don’t have a program that does this, I recommend CDBURNERXP it’s free and can be found here:

http://cdburnerxp.se/

Once you boot from this CD it will test all of your memory and let you know if anything is beginning to fail, etc…

This seems to be the next logical step.

Especially if you are starting to get these problems in other apps. I also reccomend, trying these programs without any of your other applications running in the “background”. Try streamlining how many programs load at boot using the “msconfig” command from the “run” prompt as well.

Thanks much for this info. I’ll look into it and keep you posted.

Hope all is well. I’ve started a blog but won’t make it “public” until I have at least 2 posts. Will let you know about that.

Leo,

I found another great resource that has “killer” information about Windows Stop Messages and how to go about troubleshooting them and fixing the problems. It contains information on the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and the many BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issues that Windows puts out.

It’s here:
