We award small scholarships to 5th-11th graders.

Our Organization is planning to furnish the solo music one month ahead of time.

The teacher is saying he would like “smart music” or an accompaniment used along with the solo and giving them credit for it.

We have a lot of low income families in our area and I am against using it saying that not all of our students have a computer, internet or the program in their home and our band students have a tendency to be very involved in various clubs and sports and therefore have no time to use it after school to rehearse so “Smart Music” should not be used. I also stated that it make it easier on the student to use “Smart Music” or any accompaniment and that it should be based on the students solo ability.

I am looking for other teachers/musicians opinions before I make my decision on our scholarship program. I want to do what best and fair for our students.

Yes the teacher is a trained professional but I have been a musician for 35 years and would really like the input from other music teachers/musicians.

Thanks!!!

Rick

Rick,

Sorry for the no reply… You’ve caught me and mustech.net in an upgrading situation… The truth is the DNS servers will begin propagating this to my new server tomorrow and some people will be seeing your post and some people won’t depending on which server their looking at.

I’ve been at a conference the last 4 days and haven’t been checking the forums. The forums are one of the issues I’m having with transfer and I’m going to have to re-populate them when I get over to the “other side”.

I will be answering your question, when these are up on the “other side”.

Best regards, and sorry!
