I am a performer and a voice & choir teacher. It isn't the age...of course young singers can sing without hurting themselves. However, it is the LOW singing that not only can be hard on the vocal mechanism, but also create habits of pushing and forcing the tone which will take their toll over time. Too much chest voice at an early age, does limit vocal development - even when their sound is as incredible as these 8-13 year olds. If vocal health is a concern, young singers should be taught and encouraged to develop their head voice and taught to keep the chest voice well-supported and unpushed/unforced.

I'm not at all an expert but what I was taught in college is that the style of singing may damage young voices. Children singing like adults is a concern, especially if the singing load is heavy.

Like I said, I'm not an expert so I welcome whatever information anyone has to offer, especially if it dismisses my concerns!

Do you think that singing this much at this age hurts their voices? Most girls at this early age have high voices naturally due to the smallness of their vocal cords. I did a quick search for research on voices/singing danger at early ages and didn't return anything of significance...

Am I the only one who has concerns about the long-term vocal health of those little girls? They sound great, but I can't help but think of all those little Broadway Annies with blownout voices.
