Mobile Broadband In The U.K.

Submitted by J. Pisano on April 2, 2009 – 9:59 amComments

The folks from broadband-expert.co.uk have been asking me for almost a year to talk about their product(s).   They feel that MusTech.Net would be a good platform for them because of our large international audience so, after the third request, I decided to do a quick sponsored write-up of the company as many of our readers may find their service quite appealing.

mobile broadbandAlthough mobile broadband may be a common term for many of the savvy technical users (or required knowledge of many sales representatives!), many people still aren’t sure quite what it is.  The term mobile broadband describes many different types of high-speed Internet access through a portable modem, telephone device, or other similar communication type of gear.  That being said… the term mobile broadband often times refers to the cellular-phone-provider type of broadband Internet connection(s).

Broadband-Expert, located in the U.K., states that they are the best mobile broadband provider and offer continual broadband deals including 3G broadband.   Let’s take a look at these claims…

Broadband-Expert offers 99% of UK coverage, compatibility with any PC or Mac and has plans with speeds up to 7.2 Mb per second starting at  £15.00 per month.  They also have entry level plans at well under £10.00 per month for those that have less demands.  These prices are definitely on par -if not better than many of their U.S. counterparts.

Another very interesting aspect of Broadband-Expert is that they have plans that include a laptop with their service that start at  £24.47 per month.  These plans include the laptop and the 3.6 Mb service.  This would be a great way to go if you are a business professional that needs service and likes to upgrade your hardware every couple of years or simply to deal with a 0ne-stop-shop for all of your mobile broad-band needs.

There are two criteria that one needs to be aware of when selecting this type of service from any provider: First is the speed of the service, and second (and usually missed) is quantity of the data (usually in gigabytes) that are allowed to be transferred by each contract.  Broadband-Expert clearly outlines these details in all of their plans.

If you are a UK resident and looking for mobile broadband, Broadband-Expert.co.uk is certainly worth a look and very well could be “money in the bank” with regard to savings.

  • What some of these sites do is try to send out comments and other mass ways to promote themselves and end up winding up on SPAM lists because their targeted audience users are submitting them to black lists because they are tired of seeing their advertisments show up with no real "connection" to a post or article. I can't say I blame them.

Spamhaus is pretty aggressive. I've had to remove a number of clients from their list that aren't doing anything bad... That being said, I'm glad we have organizations like them because I couldn't imagine how much SPAM would get through if we didn't!

P.S. I checked out your blog and found your article about Twitter very good.
  • Thanks—3 is the one I've been considering and I'll probably try to catch that offer. The PAYG access I'm trying is theirs.

Just one reservation: my comment on one blog was refused "because your IP address is listed as having recently sent spam", which seemed unlikely. On following a link for further information, it turned out that Spamhaus had blacklisted the entire 3 network, with an angrily worded comment on their site saying that 3 had become "a major conduit" for spam.

On the other hand, that's only happened once and it seems a very good deal, so I'll probably still go with it.

    Many thanks!
  • Hi Tim,

They have a number of providers listed at approx. £10.00:

    02 at £9.79 at 7.2Mb speed and 3Gb limit
Vodafone at £10.00 at 7.2Mb speed ad 3Gb limit and a number of
    others.

There best current deal is from 3(three-broadband)and only a limited time... 3.6Mb speed and 15Gb limit for only £15.00 (normally £30.00)
  • How much data do you get, then? Since that is the important thing.

I'm currently trying out mobile broadband via another provider, usning a borrowed dongle to see how it goes. It's a PAYG one which gives me 1 GB for £10, to be used within 30 days. I believe the contract version would give me 8 GB for the same price. I think 8 GB would be adequate; 1 GB per month is low enough to need some care not to go over.
