I was very interested in the first of your points. From this side of the pond (the UK), the perception is often that American music educators are preoccupied with musical performance at the expense of other musical activities. As readers of your blog may know, in the UK the music curriculum is built around the integrated and interrelated musical processes of performing, composing, listening, reviewing and evaluating. The important feature of the curriculum model is that these should be integrated in all activities. I'd be very interested to hear about whether any of these ideas are also part of your practices over there?

I'm interested in your #2 conversation. This sounds like a case of the lazies. Freeware encourages commercial developers to make better products that compete on the basis of value and needs. I frequently look for freeware that can do the whole job that users need it for. Reliably.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for writing! It's all about getting people to join in on the conversation isn't it? Glad to hear you are re-charged! Me too... for now!

I did here about IAJE, it's on my list to further "investigate". It's another sad day for Jazz everywhere....

Hi Joe,

It was nice chatting with you at the conference, and thanks again for the invite on Thursday night!

As I was hoping, I have been re-energized as well after the conference, and I am ready to finish the year strong! As we were talking about, I have decided that I must present my issues to the powers that be. If they then choose to ignore them, then it is on them. Don't get me wrong...I do not wish to "fight" my administration, but they need to know what needs to be done to help this program to flourish. I must stand up for what I believe in!

I think you touched on some really relevant points here. The other great thing about going to the conference is that you remember that you are not the only one in a given situation...these are all important issues that are facing many programs.

On a semi-related note....did you hear that IAJE has filed for bankruptcy? Ugh, sometimes it just seems that things are not going well in the music world....of course, unless it's American Idol, apparently.
