Music Bloggers, The Ones That Write About Current Music And Bands…

Submitted by J. Pisano on December 23, 2007 – 2:42 amComments

I’ve begun to survey the “blogosphere” for the best examples of music industry blogs and wanted to share some of the better blog sites I’ve found thus far.  Sites in this category include bloggers who write about: Rock, Rock and Roll, Hard Rock, Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Classical, Pop, and the Music industry.

If you know of a particularly “killer” blog or blogger in any of these categories (or others) please let me know.  Here’s my list so far (descriptions from the site):

http://twangville.com/

Covering twang-infused music with an alternative slant. Alt-Country, Americana, Indie, Rock, Folk & Blues.

http://blogcritics.org/music/

Blogcritics is an online magazine, a community of writers and readers from around the globe.  http://www.gloriousnoise.com/
An online music magazine featuring essays and stories about how rock and roll can change your life.

http://www.jazzandblues.blogspot.com/
A completely subjective blog of music reviews covering mostly jazz and blues but branching out into other genres as well.

http://iguessimfloating.blogspot.com/

Music, News, Music News, and Music/News of the Rock and/or Roll Variety.

http://theplugg.com
Mostly-music blog with reviews and opinions from music from the 1980’s forward.

http://www.popjustice.com/
Amazing pop music coverage of the pop news, podcasts, downloads, videos and interviews variety.

http://www.thebluegrassblog.com/
A central clearinghouse for bluegrass news and comment, targeted at both industry professionals and folks who would enjoy following what’s going on in the industry.

http://realtalkny.rawkus.com/

The Latest Hop Hop News, Songs, Pics & Videos.

http://www.the9513.com/blog/

The 9513 is the web’s premiere country music blog, and a go-to resource for thousands of readers in search of the latest country music news and reviews.

I will be adding an RSS category for them in the very near future and will be unveiling an  RSS project I’ve been working on with an industry software leader in the next few weeks that will “BLOW YOUR MINDS!”…. Stay tuned!

    Great post.

It was a pleasure meeting you at Midwest. The Asian fellow from Chicago by the M Audio booth.

You have some great ideas that I'd like to be involved with. I am pretty busy these days with a soon to be 3 and 4 year old. However, I'd be willing to do what I can.

Anyway, the two sites I frequently check out are not necessarily blogs but what the hey...here they are:

    www.soundopinions.org

Music critics for the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times. They have a radio show on National Public Radio, dubbed the "world's only rock n roll talk show." Great stuff and very insightful. They review albums on a Buy It, Burn It, Trash It scale.

    www.metacritic.com

This site compiles music critics' reviews from all the major publications from newspapers to magazines.

    One last thing...

If there are any music technology conventions or workshops you'd highly recommend attending, please let me know.

    Enjoy Being.

  • Leo,

Great to meet you as well. I certainly remember you and had a delilghtful time talking with you outside the M-Audio/Sibelius Booth at mid-west. I'm sorry for the slow response, but I'm working with a new SPAM filter and it for some reason marked this reply as SPAM and I had to fish it out of the SPAM container! I'll work on that! :)

I look forward to checking out these sites. The look "bloggable", that is worthy of a post.

Please stay in touch, and I'll keep you informed of what is happening... The TI:ME 2008 conference is somewhat close to your area this year at the end of January, you might want to check it out, if you have the time (probably not, as you will be teaching most of the days! :( ). It travels from state to state....

    Best regards,

    Joe
