Finale Notepad [tag]2007[/tag] has been released and once again it is totally free. Finale Notepad is an amazing tool for the price. Using it will inspire creativity, fortify musical understanding and promote music literacy.

If you are a teacher, you can easily add [tag]Finale[/tag] [tag]Notepad[/tag] into your everyday lessons and plans. Because it’s free and crosses O/S platforms ([tag]Mac[/tag] or [tag]Windows[/tag]), having any computer or [tag]computer lab[/tag] available to you is all that you will need in order to utilize this very useful program.

You do not need a music [tag]keyboard[/tag] or [tag]M.I.D.I.[/tag] device to use Finale Notepad. As a matter of fact, those things won’t help you at all, since M.I.D.I. type features are reserved for the upgraded versions of Finale. Despite this restriction, [tag]Finale Notepad[/tag] actually is quite useful and beneficial for individuals and school music programs alike.

I'm not getting any sound when I try to playback. Any ideas?
  • ssbmbeliever...

    This post was written in 2006, 2 years ago...it's a blog...it's chronological. :)

Note: Finale 2009 Notepad is not free... it's $9.95. I believe the folks at MakeMusic have made a critical error with their judgement on this marketing strategy.

I am currently working on a new post to address this issue and also point folks to two incredible freeware alternatives... Stay Tuned!

Dude, this program is awesome and its totally free. But when I tried to make music for 4 bass drums it wouldn't give me the 4 Bass drum sounds. Is there anyway to fix that
  • Peter,

Thanks for writing, you can get the file from here:

    http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/

You will have to register with Finale. They will give you a free serial number when you do and that's it!

Let me know if you are having problems with this... I'll check it out if need be.

What do I need to do to be able to download Finale Notepad 2007? Do need to logon with a username and password? Thanks.

  • Hey yo,

Unfortunately in the FREE FINALE NOTEPAD 2007 version there is no way that I know of to easily accomplish this except for making a new document with the voice that you want hear (violin, in your case) and using the mass edit tool (dotted selection box) and pasting those lines over to the new document. I guess this could be considered "work around", but it does indeed work.

Recap: Make a new document with the voice that you want to hear. Make sure that both documents are open (the old one and the new one you just made). Cut the music from the old one with the MASS EDIT tool and PASTE it on to the correct line in the New Document.

Hope that helps, and thanks for your POST! :)

This thing is absolutely da bomb. Takes a little learning, and that effort is repaid a hundred times over. A terrific tool for both learning and working. Thank you for creating this and making it available. (Geeze, I can't believe it's free!)
